Bananas in San Francisco: Part 1

All this summer Pacsun has been having this Instagram contest where you had to repost one of their pictures and could win a trip to NY, LA or SF. Arni won a gift card during the NY contest but he still was gunning for the grand prize. And it came!
About a month ago, he woke up to find a comment from Pacsun saying he’d won a trip to San Francisco with all expenses paid for him and a friend (including the Outside Lands festival).

THANK YOU SO MUCH PACSUN!

When he first texted Alfon that he won she had a couple of thoughts. “Is it a scam?” “He’s so lucky. Who wins this stuff?” And of course, “I hope he takes me!” For several days, Arni said he was undecided between other friends and his sister but at the end ended up choosing Alfon, since “nobody would’ve enjoyed the festival more”.

We had a bit of a dilemma since we only had 4 days in the city (neither of us had been to SF before) and we wanted to explore it but also wanted to enjoy the festival the best we could. We decided to go two days to the festival and spend the other day seeing the city.

Leaving PR, Alfon was a little late to the airport, like always, but luckily we got upgraded to first class and had a great first half of the trip. The second flight was hell.

We got to SF Friday at noon and spent all day sightseeing and taking pictures. We walked through Presidio Park which had these really tall, gorgeous trees and these old style houses that were so pretty, then we visited the Palace of Fine Arts (which is beautiful and was Arni’s favorite spot), Lombard Street, the Fisherman’s Wharf and at dawn, we took one of those sightseeing busses (I know! So touristy!) to really take in the city.

Lots of people say it’s the best city in the US. It is SO PRETTY! Though Arni says NYC IS THE BEST!  No wonder everyone always told us SF is a beautiful cityIt’s got a quaint feeling to it. It’s like a city stuck in time. Muted colors, big houses that seem perfect for a big family and steep hills all around. It’s the perfect place to build a home.

Alfon always say that in every trip you should have a fancy dinner at least once. A friend that lives there recommended several places to eat but when he described Foreign Cinema in the Mission District, I knew it was the perfect place to take Arni. It’s a small restaurant with a patio decorated with pretty lights and a big screen where they play old movies. The food was tasty as well. It was the perfect place to start our vacation, with a bottle of wine of course.

After our dinner, we decided to go to a few bars. We walked around the city and visited some bars that friends had suggested but didn’t find anything that we loved plus Alfon got the hiccups so we ended up going back to the hotel and got to rest for our next day adventures.

Stay tuned for the rest of our trip!
